UK Injection Moulding Manufacturer
What is injection moulding?
At our factory, in Leicester, UK, we use injection moulding to manufacture measures and closures, which involves injecting molten plastic material into a mould cavity.
Once the plastic cools and solidifies, it takes the shape of the mould, creating precise and complex plastic parts for our scoops, containers and closures.
This versatile technique is widely used to produce a vast range of plastic products, from simple components to intricate designs.
Advantages of injection moulding:
High production rate, low production cost: Injection moulding can produce thousands of parts per hour. The cost per part is low, especially for high volume production.
Consistency: Process is highly repeatable.
Design flexibility: The high pressure involved allows for complex parts.
Minimal waste: The process produces little waste, and excess plastic is reused.
Low labour cost: The process is highly automated, reducing costs.
Wide material selection: You can use multiple types of plastic to suit your needs.

Measom Freer’s injection moulding process:
1. Material prep: Plastic granules are fed into the machine and into the barrel where they are heated.
2. Mould close: The moving half of the mould clamps to the fixed half with enough force to withstand the injection pressure required in the fill stages.
3. First stage injection: The screw pushes forward and the now molten plastic is injected into the mould cavity to fill around 95% of the part.
4. Second stage fill Lower pressure and a hold time are then applied to fill the last 5% with greater control. This decides the weight and dimensions of the part.
5. Cooling: Chilled water is continually circulated around the mould solidifying the plastic to its new shape.
6. Screw back: Whilst the parts are cooling the screw rotates and ‘plasticizes’ more material for the next shot.
7. Ejection: Once the plastic has cooled the mould opens and the newly formed parts are ejected by movement, air blow or robot take out.
