Measom Freer share update on Plastic Packaging Tax progress
Posted on January 8, 2025

The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) was introduced in April 2022 and applies to any plastic packaging manufactured or imported into the UK that does not incorporate a minimum 30% recycled content and exceeds 10 tonnes per year.

As of July 2024, HMRC said that 4,669 UK businesses had registered for PPT out of an estimated 20,000 manufacturers and importers.

Measom Freer is committed to responsible manufacturing processes and has supported the levy since its introduction in 2022.

Measom Freer’s commitment

Measom Freer have implemented rigorous processes and procedures to accurately record and declare the amount of plastic packaging it produces each month to ensure that the correct amount of PPT is paid to HMRC.

Measom Freer account manager Kara Soper said: “We have worked hard to ensure our systems accurately record everything we produce. From product weight, quantity, material used, we log it all.

“We were recently audited and were able to confidently share our reporting processes and documentation. It confirmed to HMRC that we are a responsible business that takes our PPT obligations seriously.

“We have robust processes linked to our IT systems and work closely with the production team to ensure our reporting is accurate.”

From a customer’s perspective, Measom Freer build relationships with customers to help them to make informed, sustainable choices based on their needs and environmental commitments.

Measom Freer has recently received recertification for its ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accreditations. The maintenance of an integrated quality, environmental and health & safety management system demonstrates its responsibility to their people, customers and impact on the environment.
