Why our customers are making the switch from PVC to PETG
Why our customers are making the switch from PVC to PETG.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is currently used for about a third of the worlds demand, but there are some downsides that means it’s not always everyone’s first choice. PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and PETG (Polyethylene terephthalate with added Glycol) have risen to popularity, but have not yet overtaken PVC in terms of use.
Here at Measom Freer we are in the process of replacing our stocked items with PETG rather than PVC. Additionally, we are seeing an increasing number of our customers requesting to change the material their items are manufactured in from PVC to PETG. The cause of these changes are down to a number of factors:

More efficient processing – When using PVC, processing machines must be ‘purged’ with special material in between uses to clean the internal processing parts of the machine. This extra cost that goes alongside PVC is not required for PETG, making it a cheaper and more efficient option.

Improved clarity – PETG has a glossier, clearer finish than PVC.

Wider applications – We have invested in trials of excellent PETG materials which surpass PVC in all areas including the development of recycled material that has the same clarity as virgin PETG AND is Food Approved.

Better for the environment – When manufacturing PETG bottles we can reuse processing scrap back in at a much higher percentage without affecting quality or clarity. There is less waste and minimal purging of material when starting and finishing production compared to PVC.

Better chemical resistance and barrier resistance properties
