Updates to the Plastic Packaging Tax

What is the PPT?

The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) was introduced in April 2022, and it affects any plastic packaging that does not incorporate a minimum recycled content of 30%. This provides an economic incentive for businesses to increasingly buy and use recycled materials in their plastic packaging. The tax applies to most plastic packaging manufactured or imported into the UK, and does not apply to packaging that is made in the UK and exported within 12 months prior to use.

As a responsible manufacturer that is regularly searching for and reviewing new recycled materials, we support this levy and the changes it encourages. Measom Freer, as a manufacturer, has and will continue to pay the tax (as per HMRC guidelines). If products that you order fall under this recycled content requirement, your invoice will be marked accordingly to demonstrate that the PPT has been included in your prices.

Changes to PPT in 2024

The rate of tax was originally £200 per tonne in 2022, £210.82 2023 and now 217.85 from the 1st April 2024.
