Keeping chemicals safe in plastic containers

Using the right plastic containers to store certain chemicals for your business is critical – to ensure adherence to strict health and safety guidelines.

And if you need plastic containers for storing large volumes of chemicals or acid, here at Measom Freer, we’ve got you covered. We have a variety of products that are ideal for you and with our customisable options within each range, we are confident you can find what you need.

Custom moulding

Measom Freer’s custom moulding service is where we design and produce a plastic container that is in line with your exacting needs and requirements. By using the latest computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) facilities, we can produce component designs, 3D visualisation and modelling, before – if feasible – manufacturing prototypes of your required designs.

This gives you time to really evaluate the design and make any necessary changes before we proceed to full manufacture. In our in-house tool room, we apply the latest state-of-the-art technology to complement our designs and accept most file formats, including IGES, SLDDRP and STEP.

When designing plastic containers for your business, we promote strict confidentiality at all times, to protect your brand at each design stage. With a reputation for delivering an exceptional customer service at all times, we’re waiting to take your call so our skilled team can identify the ideal mould solution and assist you all the way to the final design.

We also offer a bespoke printing service, where we can complement the look of your finished plastic container or bottle with the inclusion of logos and text in just one, or multiple, colours. We also ensure that the correct hazardous chemical signs are on there as well.

Which plastic is best?

Whilst some chemicals may negatively react with metal containers or glass bottles, using plastic containers to store chemicals is by far the safest option - as they can accommodate the unique properties of each chemical, including corrosiveness.

The best plastics for storing chemicals are:

  • polyethylene plastic (PP)

This recyclable thermoplastic polymer has good chemical resistance, making it an ideal plastic container for storing chemicals in your business. Although low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are used to produce things like rubbish bins and drainpipes, their compounds mean any plastic containers using this particular material will be corrosion-resistant.

The diversity of these PE variants make them compatible with most strong chemicals, as they are noted for their high impact strength – meaning if they were dropped then the risk of chemical spillages are minimal.

  • polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

As a strong, stiff and durable plastic, PVC is easy to fabricate and bond with multiple adhesives and solvents. Chemically-resistant, you can be assured that anything you store in these particular plastic containers will be safe with no chance of any leakages or spillages.

PVC is more amenable to bending than its counterpart, uPVC, which makes it ideal for our custom moulding – both blow moulding and injection moulding – so you end up with the ideal product for your need.
