How does custom moulding help keep our carbon footprint down?

The environmental impact of plastics is often talked about on the news, but here at Measom Freer, a major producer of plastic products, we are committed to lowering our carbon footprint.

We are continually improving our process of making injection moulded and blow moulded products, and our new, high-tech moulding machinery is much more energy efficient than its predecessors.

Measom Freer don’t manufacture single use plastic products. We use 100% recyclable plastic and can manufacture from PCR Recycled Plastic where availble. Furthermore, in order to reduce wastage from our custom moulding production, any leftover materials are re-ground. We use some of these leftover regrind again ourselves, and the rest is sent to recycling waste companies to ensure that they are used again.

Measom Freer’s commitment to lowering its carbon footprint

Using recycled plastics

A study of the life-cycle of plastic proved that increased use of recycled materials substantially reduced greenhouse gas emissions (by not using all the energy to produce the polymers in the first place all over again) and the carbon footprint of plastic packaging. Therefore, we only ever use responsibly sourced and recyclable thermoplastics in our custom moulding production process.

Using recycled plastics in the processes of injection moulding and blow moulding not only benefits the environment, but is also much more cost-effective for our customers than single use plastic.  Additionally, your customers are more likely to have a positive view of your business when they discover that you are choosing to use recycled plastic in the manufacturing process of your packaging. Link this to using refils for your plastic bottles keeps packaging to a minimum and is better for the environment.

Reducing the miles our materials travel

Contract manufacturing within the UK is on the rise.  This is partly down to Brexit, but also due to many customers reshoring and becoming more environmentally aware of the impact that shipping their products from another country brings. If your company is UK based, Measom Freer are perfectly placed to meet all your custom moulding needs whilst keeping your carbon footprint low.  (We can also supply plastic packaging to the EU.)

With many complex products, such as ours, there is frequently an equally complex supply chain. However, we provide all your plastic packaging requirements in-house - moulding, assembly, printing and labelling.  This has significantly reduced our carbon footprint, and that of our customers, as our products and materials are not transported unnecessarily.

Other ways we lower our carbon footprint

Here at Measom Freer, we are committed to lowering our carbon footprint.  On top of using recycled plastics in all our production processes, and reducing the miles that our materials travel, we also try to reduce our environmental impact in as many other ways as possible.

We source all of our packaging materials from UK suppliers.  We also use paper sparingly in our offices, always printing on both sides and recycling all of our waste paper. All of our lighting is being converted to LEDs where possible.
