Here at Measom Freer we believe it is our moral duty to protect the natural environment and we are committed to minimising our global impact as a business. We operate an Integrated Management System which embraces Quality Management, Environmental Management and Health & Safety Management.

How we aim to achieve this:

• Regular environmental audits help us to achieve continuous improvement. We use a mixture of internal and external audits to BSI ISO 14001:2015 and gained certification in March 2018. (Certificate No EMS 675539) 

• We ensure our stock products are sustainable by sourcing materials such as polythene that can be readily recycled, PPR (post production regrind) is also used in all our stock products. We aim to advance the use of sustainably sourced plastic including HDPE (High density polyethylene), PCR (Post consumer regrind) biodegradable and plant based plastics.
• Regarding logistics our carriers all have central depots and organise transport to reduce road miles with goods grouped with those of their other customers.
• New machinery and equipment is checked for energy efficiency before purchase. We are currently phasing in LED lighting across the whole site.
• Our employees share our collective values, cycling to work is encouraged, power is switched off when areas/kit not in use, waste segregation is in place throughout the premises. We recycle our waste with an aim to prevent and reduce waste and re-use materials where we can. Waste prevention is the preferred option, followed by reuse, recycling, recovery ( including energy recovery) and as a last option, safe disposal.
• We are installing twin point 22kW EV Charger for the use of all our employees and visitors to charge their electric vehicles and encourage them to have one.
• The first of our gas boilers in our main warehouse has been replaced with an electric one to reduce emissions.
• The Heating and Ventilation Control Panels throughout the manufacturing plant have been replaced to improve efficiency, the working environment and reduce energy use and wastage 
• We encourage consumers to recycle our products by having a recycling logo on our stock products where possible and recycling information on our website.
• Looking at our supply chain, we monitor the green credentials of all our suppliers. We buy in and use recycled and environmentally friendly products such as stationery, maintenance and janitorial items where we can and reduce the use of aerosols and hazardous substances.

• Valpack are a UK compliance scheme offering nationwide compliance for all packaging materials to meet the legal obligations of their members under the packaging waste regulations.

• BPF (British Plastics Federation) who represent the industry and promote sustainability via campaigns, publicity and materials.

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) is the world's longest running plastics trade association.

It was established in 1933 and has represented and promoted the UK plastics industry ever since.

The BPF has more than 450 member companies that span the entire plastics supply chain.

The BPF groups represent over 80% of the UK plastics industry by turnover. 

Established in 1937, Measom Freer is one of the most respected names in plastic packaging. The company produces a wide range of injection and blow moulded plastic packaging, with an extensive off the shelf product range including plastic bottles, caps, measures, adjustable fasteners, scoops, spatulas and spoons. The company is also a specialist in bespoke packaging and houses its own tool making facilities.

Measom Freer recognises its responsibility as an organisation towards the short and long term impacts of its business in relation to the quality of its products, the health and safety of its people and site visitors and to the environment, both locally and globally.

This policy which provides a framework for establishing and reviewing objectives will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains relevant and appropriate to the Company. We will strive to:

• Comply fully with all relevant environmental, health and safety legislation and aim to follow best industrial practice.

• Encourage full participation and commitment of all employees in the production processes on quality, health, safety and environmental issues.

• Reduce our impact on and protect the environment through the adoption of waste reduction and recycling practices wherever practical and to prevent pollution.

• Ensure that all the materials used are unloaded, used, stored and disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

• Ensure that the integrated management system is fully documented and reviewed to ensure sound quality, health and safety and environmental practice and achieve continual improvement.

• We will work closely with our suppliers and sub-contractors to encourage them to adopt similar disciplines and to provide quality and safe and environmentally friendly products and services to enable us to fulfil our commitments.

• Review the environmental, health and safety impact of future plant and equipment prior to its purchase and use .

We are committed to ensuring that slavery, human trafficking, and forced labour does not take place in our business or any part of our supply chain by seeking to:

• Ensure our recruitment processes are transparent and reviewed regularly, with robust processes in place for the vetting of the appointment of our people;

• Raise awareness of the issue amongst our staff and our suppliers to combat the hidden nature of modern slavery;

Gas Usage

As we changed the system last year to include both warehouses the figures became disjointed as although it shows for 20/21 an increase of 125% this was because we included unit 41, the actual increase for 37/39 was 7.6%. So, for 21/22 we are now comparing like for like and this shows a very small increase of 2.1%. Looking at our projected figures we are anticipating a reduction of 9.18 %. This shows that by monitoring the temperatures and staff being unable to change or tamper with controls we should be able to maintain constant consumption, although this is dependent still upon the weather.

Our target for the next 12-month period is to at least maintain our current usage or hopefully fulfill our projected reduction.

Electricity Usage

Looking at the table below we can see that our electricity usage has reduced significantly this is showing that our investment in the new more energy efficient machinery is paying off.

Our target for April 2022 – March 23 will be to maintain or reduce consumption as per our prediction, however this is dependent on future machine running hours and further investment in new machinery

Recyclable and General Waste

From the table below we can see that we have managed to reduce our diverted waste by a huge 8%. This is because we have been monitoring waste that is generated by manufacturing to reduce our obligation to the new PPT

From the table below we can see that we have a large increase in our recycling waste this is because our waste is being more efficiently sorted to comply with PPT. Also, due to the new machinery etc. that we have invested in we have had to dispose of all recyclable packaging from deliveries

Recycling

Our target would be to reduce these figures, but the waste is determined by sales and tool changes. However, we have reduced our landfill to nil see attached chart

Water Usage

The water consumption is largely dependent on sales as we would need to change tooling more often. We can see that for period 21/22 our water usage decreased by 30.1% this is inline with sales reduction of 8.6%

Our main target is to reduce these figures, but the partial water consumption is determined again by tool changes.

All our products are free from Trans­mis­si­ble Spongi­form Encephalopa­thy (TSE) and Bovine Spongi­form Encephalopa­thy (BSE) They do not con­tain any raw mate­ri­als pro­duced from, or sub­stances derived from ani­mal ori­gin. The man­u­fac­tur­ing process does not use any ingre­di­ent of ani­mal ori­gin. Also, none of our prod­ucts come in con­tact with ani­mal prod­ucts dur­ing stor­age and trans­porta­tion.
